Mosquitoes

It is a sub-family of Diptera. Its females feed on human blood. It’s the most sucking insects of blood and the most spreading insects. It cause annoying by its repeated bites. It transmit several diseases, including malaria. Some of mosquitoes feed on the blood of animal and birds.

The female alone feeds in blood because it’s necessary for maturation of the eggs. While the male feeds on blood of plants and nectar of flowers. The female’s mouth is distinguished by having tiny parts that help in piercing body and sucking blood (piercing sucking tongue)

Food of Mosquitoes

It feed on flowers’ abstract. But prevailing belief that it feed on blood is wrong. The female alone, not the male, sucks the blood and it needs blood for production of eggs. It transmits diseases and epidemics from a person to another. But the male feeds on flowers’ abstract.

Kinds of Mosquitoes

There are more than 3000 kinds of mosquitoes. Biologists classify them to almost 35 sorts, including:

EADS Aajbtaa: it transmits Dengue Fever and lives in residential areas in holes of air conditioners and under reservoirs and covers of cars.
EADS Vksn Arbacz: it lives in valleys and clear water. It frequently lives in rural areas, near dams and rivers. It’s responsible forRift Valley Fever, a mutual disease between human and animal. Virus stays with the eggs for many years.
Anopheles: it’s responsible for malaria and filaria. It lives in valleys and rural area.
Culex: it transmits Rift Valley Fever but it doesn’t put Rift Valley Fever in the eggs. It lives in everywhere, even in the sewage.

Places Where Mosquitoes Gather

Blood meal, which the female had, works on forming the eggs. The female lay eggs above the water surface, which is essential for hatching of eggs. Gatherings of rainwater, ponds, non-used swimming pools, uncovered water reservoirs, groundwater seepage, and etc. are good places to lay eggs.

The eggs hatch within one or two days. Every egg produce a larva, which its length is not that 1 millimeter. The larva has a head and chest. It has bristles that helps in to swim seeking for its food from algae and micro-organisms. It breath the oxygen in the atmosphere at the water surface.

How Mosquito Bites:

Mosquito cannot bite, because it cannot open its jaws, but it can insert, in its prey’s body, 6 needle-like parts, called “labia” that is in middle of the proboscis and covers mandible of the mosquito. When it insects these labia and they enters into skin, the mandible carves and move up to be away, then the salvia flows into animal’s body through channels produced by labia. The saliva prevents blood clotting which makes mosquito sucks it easily. Most of people are allergic of mosquito’s salvia. Thus, itchyfuruncles emerges on the skin called furuncles of mosquito’s bite. When mosquito finish sucking blood, it take back the labia slowly from the body, then the mandible slips to take its previous position above labia. Then it flies.

Life Cycle of larva

The larva molts 4 times during its life which extends from 7 to 10 days. It remove its external skin every time after forming a new skin which helps it again to grow. In the fourth time, larva turns to chrysalis which is different from larva in formation. It doesn’t eat but it moves on the water and breath the oxygen. Chrysalis lasts from 2 to 3 days in which adult mosquito’s parts form, such as legs, the two wings and mouthparts. The skin of chrysalis splits and adult mosquito goes out in the sunset. Males and females fly. Then, the fecundation happens. Then, the females continue its flying and look for the host to suck blood from it. A distance of flying for the female could be several kilometers. Then the female lays eggs on the surface of water. The life cycle repeats.

Laying eggs:

The female lays about 100-300 eggs every time according to the kind of mosquito. The female can lay about 3000 eggs during its whole life. The eggs come out from a hole in belly side. Most females of mosquito kinds put eggs on the surface of water or near it. But every female has its own favorite place to lay eggs in it. Some females prefer freshwater swamps, others prefer salty swamps. Also, there are some females which prefer to lay eggs in water gathering in tin cans, channels of rain, cesspools, trunks of fallen trees or parts of hollow trees.

In some kinds, female lay eggs one after another. This eggs have decorated and transparent partsof the cortex called buoys to keep them float till hatching. There are some types of females that lay their eggs in groups looks like pontoons . in this case, the female stays on the surface of water while laying its eggs which take a narrow form in its surface. It push wide parts of the eggs by its back legs carefully, forming pontoon-like groups. Most of eggs hatch within 2 or 3 days in warm atmosphere.

All kinds of mosquitoes need moisture till hatching. However, not all females lay eggs on water. There are a specific kind of mosquito called floodwater mosquito which lay eggs in soil, in floodplains and in irrigation places. This eggs hatch when flood happens, that may be after a year. There are other kinds of mosquitoes called – sometimes – pond mosquito which lays eggs in dry ponds. This eggs hatch after the pond get full with rainwater. Not all eggs of that kind hatch at first fall of rain. They may need to drown with water for 2 or 3 tims till hatching.

Diseases that Mosquito Causes:

A bit of mosquito causes an inflammation of skin, especially for children. A red spot appears around place of bite. As a result, Skin may swell. There are some kinds of mosquitoes that may transmit a disease to the human while sucking blood. The most important diseases which mosquitoes transmit includes malaria, filarial (elephantiasis) and yellow fever. It’s known that the female alone feeds on blood and transmits diseases.
